[ news ] [ thoughts & memories ] [ memories of derek ] [ golf day 2015 ] [ galleries ] [ couples ] [ obituaries ] [ the renegades ] [ where are they? ] [ golf ] [ the oww! ] [ links ] this website is aimed, mainly, at former pupils , and staff, of both grove park grammar schools, wrexham. we would hope that many others who were around the area during that "golden" period can also enjoy, and perhaps contribute to, the site. contact: [email protected] or 01691-831880 this year's golf day/reunion dinner was, yet again, a great success. last autumn i made the decision to not publish "deaths" as they were getting too frequent! however , i cannot let a recent death pass without comment. brian jones, known as "bh" , typified everything that was good about grove park. the son of a bus driver, and resident of queen's park, brian took advantage of the opportunities afforded him. he was, without doubt, the best all-round sportsman that i have ever met.he captained the rugby teams, of which i was a member, all the way through from bantams, under 14s, colts and 1st xv. by the time he reached the upper sixth he was captain of: rugby, soccer, cricket and athletics! as one former team mate put it: "he was our leader". has anyone any idea on the whereabouts of david elwyn edwards aka"erm"? (1956 - 1963) his last known address was in bosbury near ledbury. update: i "found" "erm". sadly, he passed away in february. congratulations to roy finchett on the publication of his first book: "illusion of good government" is published by olympia publishers and available at most bookshops as well as online at amazon and olympia: www.olympiapublishers.com go to the "home page" and scroll down to new releases. roy describes the book as his views on "people, politics, parliament and power"! having, now, read the book i can say that it is an excellent read. it is extremely well researched and written. roy attacks his "targets" in a very even-handed way and it would be difficult to ascertain in which direction his political sympathies lie. despite the "heavy" nature of the subject matter it is a very "readable" publication. i have set up an old wrexhamians page on facebook. please join! beware! there is another fb group, that has nothing to do with grove park, using the name. the "real" old wrexhamians group has the school badge as the profile pic. has anyone got a copy of the 1964 speech day programme? it will contain information very useful to me! contact details @ foot of page. the 2017 re-union dinner and golf day will be on friday 9th june. details to follow. congratulations to sheila powell (nee hughes) on the publication of her first book! does anyone know what happened to anthony john "tony" evans who left g.p. in 1963? he studied physics and chemistry at "a" level but we don't know if he went on to higher education. the annual ow golf day and reunion dinner was, once again, a great success. our thanks go to: dave jones & john roberts for arranging the complete "package" : wrexham golf club for providing a course in superb condition: mike morris for, once again, representing the staff and, finally, (judge) roger dutton for his "after dinner" contribution. if he ever retires from the high court we are sure there will be an opening for him as a comedian!
